Artist Statement
I’m interested in the relationship between a photographic image and mark making. The interaction between the two overrides any particular image or traditional printing process. I work experimentally, pushing the composition so that both materials interact in ways that are both expected and unexpected.
In this latest series, I shoot images of nature in decay to emphasize the limitations of digital inks themselves, as well as our own impermanence. Shooting digitally and printing directly onto clear film; I use an alcohol gel to dissolve the inks and the integrity of the images, before finally transferring the print to paper.
These deconstructed images breakdown the barrier between photography and the ink associated with its printing, merging the two, into a combination of known and unknown.
